Everyone feels down, sad, blue or "depressed" at times. Sometimes we know the reason: a fight with a friend or family member, feeling lonely or left out, hurt feelings, illness, loss or grief. Other times we not know why we are feeling the way we do.
The following is a list of signs/feelings of depression however, it is important to note that someone may be experiencing one or more of the following feelings and not be depressed. Feelings of depression become an issue when they are present every day for most of the day for a period of 2 weeks or more and they impact how you function in your daily life. If you are worried that your mood isn't getting better and any of these feelings/signs are negatively impacting you, you may benefit from talking to a skilled professional (i.e., a counsellor, doctor, nurse, or psychologist). Start by talking with someone you trust like a parent, family member, teacher, or school counsellor.
